This is me practicing my final composition to be played in the assessment. I played well this time and although i could improve the B section, the other parts were good. I missed the the last four bars of the songs though, so that means i still need to work on it and make it second nature to me. When it is second nature i can then play in front of the audience prepared and excellently.

This is my second attempt in adding bass lines to my composition. I made changes to the first couple of bass lines, this one has more angle and wide sound to it. Its less simple and more interesting. I have done the bass lines only for the A and A' section, i need to work on the bass lines for the B section next.

This is my first attempt in putting bass lines on my final composition. It is rather simple and i shall look upon improving it more and making it a bit more difficult and dynamic at the same time. I slowed down the tempo of the song a bit in order for me to be able to play the bass lines properly first.

This is my second video practicing the D and E melodic minor scale. In this video i am playing and picking much better compared to the previous session. I played faster and also memorised most of the notes already. That being said, i still have a lot to learn like doing the scale for other notes as well. I will keep on practicing that.

Today me and my partner Ezra were practicing an Indonesian patriotic song called "Indonesia Pusaka" In the video, it was not that clear because the wind was blowing pretty hard and dusts kept on going into our eyes. But nonetheless it was a decent practice. Although it was pretty sloppy, we managed to get the lyrics almost perfectly. We should practice a lot more if we want to sound like professionals.

This is me practicing the patriotic song called "Indonesia Pusaka". In this video my singing could be a lot better because sometimes the change in intensity is nor that smooth and needs polishing. To improve my singing i will keep on practicing it and try to reach the notes well.

In this video i am practicing Lullaby by Johannes Brahms again. In this video my tempo is getting better and the piece is played more properly and deserving. With this playing i think i can get a decent score for the assessment on monday. I will keep on improving on my tempo though, and try to give my best at it. I need to get used to the song.

In this video i am practicing cavatina by Stanley Myers. I played half of the song in this video. I haven't learnt the other half yet and that is what i am going to do next. But in the video i thought i played fairly well although there a lot of improvements needed. I managed to barre the chords pretty well and played it fairly fluently. I will keep on working on it until the day of the assessment.

In this video I am practicing Cavatina by Stanley Myers whom the song was adapted to guitar by John Williams. In this video i played the song in a much slower tempo and it worked. I managed to play pretty fluently although it could still obviously be much better. I am going to fix my nylon guitar and start practicing using that because that guitar is what i am going to use to perform the song at the day of the assessment.

This is me practicing Cavatina by Stanley Myers with arrangements by John Williams. In this video my playing was not fluent and needs a lot of improvement. The notes are not heard partly due to the steel strings. My fingers aren't strong enough yet to bar them but i should do fine on nylon. On the next practice i'll try and play it slower and hopefully more fluent.

This is me practicing the Hungarian Dance No. 5 by Johannes Brahms. In this video i am playing at normal speed and the sense of mysteriousness in the piece really shows. I though i played fluently in this video but i will still practice more to better myself. I will try and learn the other parts but if i cant manage it i'll just perform this part of the piece and repeat it.

This is me practicing the romantic piece composed by Johannes Brahms. The piece is called Hungarian Dance No. 5. It is pretty tough and being able to play parts of it is very satisfying. In this video i am playing it slowly as to be able to get the tempo and each note right. I thought i did well but i could still improve more.

I found out that this song was considered to be a romantic era song so i opted to do this instead as it is both simple and beautiful to play. Here i did not memorize much of the song so i read the tabs for it on the internet. Next i am going to start memorizing the songs.

This is me practicing the moonlight sonata by Ludwig Van Beethoven. I am planning on doing this for my guitar playing assessment. It is hard but i will try my best to do it properly and well. Today the other groups present their presentation about the different musical genres. The groups that presented their work today was the group that did classical music. I learnt that there was not any piano during the baroque era and instead of it they use the harpsichord. It was only until the classical era did the piano was introduced. I also found out that baroque music was the first to introduce chamber music.

During instrument class, I kept on learning the deer hunter soundtrack.

Today it was my group's turn to present our work. We did a presentation about rock and roll. I thought we did well as we give enough music samples and videos about the genre. Other groups also present their findings to the class. These groups were the jazz, and pop/rock groups. I learnt that jazz is actually a branch of blues.

There was not any instrument class today as all time was taken to do the presentations.

Today we learnt about music notations. We learnt about upbeat, tied notes and the different time signatures. We also discussed our next quiz which would be on monday about 7th chords. There was not much today and soon we were dismissed to our instrument classes.

During instrument class i continued practicing deer hunter. We also learnt a new song called 'the poor people of paris' by Chet Atkins. I am going to keep on practicing both songs.

This is a video of me practicing the deer hunter theme song again. In this video my tempo is better as i tried to play the song with the same speed as the original one. It wasn't that good but at least i tried it out. I need to be more fluent in sounding every string i pick and basically play the song better.

Today was supposed to be our presentation day. But due to the lack of students present we postponed the presentation until after the break. What we ended up doing that day was just to practice our presentation and to see which parts we can improve. That is basically it for today, we did not have any instrument class again because all time was taken in rehearsing the presentations. During the break i am going to improve the presentation.

Today was our singing assessment. We came in front of the class and sung the western song of our choice. We could either do a karaoke or play the instrument ourselves while singing. I chose the latter. I thought i did well during the assessment, my pitch was good and my playing as well. But laughter is probably my issue, as i was performing the student in front of me was making funny gestures and i cant help but laugh. I did another try and this time i did much better, mostly because i closed my eyes but i found out that if you close your eyes you can focus better. There was no instrument class as all the time was taken in doing the singing assessment. I am going to finalize my presentation for next class.

Today we had rehearsals for next monday where we are going to sing a western song in front of the class to be assessed. I went up second and i thought i did quite. I could have improved my eye contact more and be more confident in singing the song. Then after  rehearsals, we went to our group and discussed out presentation. Our group decided to do the rock and roll genre.

We did not have any instrument class as there was no time left. For next class i am going to research about the rock n roll genre and practice my singing.

Today we were assigned to our different groups. My team-mates are Shavira and Ezra. We are assigned to make a presentation about western music next week. Today we discussed about what we know and what we want to know about the subject. We knew a lot about western music because we listen to it a lot and so we wrote what we know about it on a piece of paper. We as a group, would like to know more about the jazz and blues songs structure and theory. We also did a music notation quiz and i am very happy that i got a good mark at it. This time last year, i had absolutely no clue about the notations so I'm glad i've dealt with that problem now.

During instrument class we learnt a song called deer hunter. its a really intricate slow song. I am going to keep on practicing this song.

Today we sung the "bagimu negeri" song in front of the class individually. I thought this time i did better than last time and i'm satisfied with it. After all the students finished their performance we did a little bit of theory was dismissed to our instrument class. But since the singing took a long time to finish we did not really have time to have instrument class. Just 4 minutes. For next session i am going to research more about western music.

Today the teacher showed us how to do the blog reflections for the new music students. The teacher also showed us the video he took during our final exams last school year. The performance was good and i am quite pleased by it. There is a project that we had to do, musical genres. we were given previous students' booklets as samples as what we should do. We were told to make a group presentation about genres with the groups being assigned to us on monday.

During instrument class, we learnt how to play super mario. I have tried learning the song before but i cannot seem to get it right. But during this class i managed to get it, so now i could play bits of it quite decently. Next i am going to just keep on practicing my guitar skills and upload two videos for the week.

Today the rest of the students who haven't sang, sung. That includes me. I thought i did quite well although i forgot one word of the song. Good thing it was only a rehearsal and not the real assessment because i could have done a lot better. After that we reviewed last session's scales and the homework. I did well and helped out others who did not know how to do the scales.

During the instrument class we tried doing the strumming technique the teacher told us but it was really difficult and requires a lot of practice. We basically just talked around and the teacher giving us a examples of different songs and strumming techniques. Next time I should be uploading videos already.

Today was the second week of Grade 10 and the first music class of the week. Today, some of us sang the national song called "Bagimu Negeri". There were around 4 people who performed today because we did not have enough time. We reviewed major scales today and were told to make 5 different scales for next class. C G D A E.

During instrument class, we learnt various finger exercises. Mr John is still away and so there was a substitute teacher. He is very good with the guitar. We played the songs we know and that was it.

Today i practiced the chords again but with a bit of variation today. The second line of the composition excluding the intro was where the change was made. It made the song more colorful so to say but it was still dirty and could have been a lot neater. I probably should cut my nails as it might be affecting the sound. As for the breakdown I'm going to stick to the way i strum in the previous videos. Im going to keep on practicing the chords and strum it the way i want it to sound during the performance on June 8th.

Today we practiced our composition again as usual. I did some variations of the chords today, trying something new in order to make the song more dynamic. I tried playing the C chord in the 8th fret as compared to the classic one with open strings. It gave a different sound and it is good but i will most likely use the original one although i'd give that a go a few more times.

We did not have any instrument class today for the same reasons.

Today we were told that we are going to be given MDW booklets on Monday. We were told that we could submit it anytime with 8th of June being the latest. We were then separated into our groups and went to separate rooms like the guitar and the violin room. There we could practice better because there is not much distraction. We did not really have any instrument class for the same reasons again.

Today we continued practicing our composition. My group performed once in front of the class and so did the others. After that i practiced strumming on my own. There's not much happening today as practicing is all we did. I am going to keep on practicing my strumming until i get so bored its natural. This is so i won't make a mistake when performing.

In this video i am still practicing the same thing again, the chord strumming. I would want to make the strumming second nature so that i would be able to perform the song easily without mistake during the exams. the strumming sounded crisp and good. the only thing i have to improve is the pattern, it was a bit different than what i plan so i will work on that.

Today we gave our final draft of the composition that we made as a group. We also played our song one by one and got feedback from the teachers on how the composition could be further improved. We did assessment on the composition writing the background of the song and how we prepared it.

We did not have any instrument class again because we were all performing our compositions.

Today we gave our drafts to be checked. Our group's draft was good the only thing needed alteration was from the intensity logo to the ritardando. This is because in the composition the notes aren't suppose to be played less loud but slower. We also performed our composition in order to get feedback. The feedback was that Hashfi had to use an amplifier when performing so his guitar could be heard properly.

We did not have any instrument class today because of the usual program. Collaborating in the music room to make our composition.

By next week i will be done with the final draft of the composition.

In this video i am practicing the chords of the composition again. I am starting to get the hang of the chords and the strumming well. I strummed smoothly and fluently and I am very happy with it. I will keep on practicing it in order to maintain it.

Today we did not do much other than improve our composition. But my group just rehearsed the song because we are down with our piece. However there are some articulations to added still. I did the draft and by next session i should be able to give the final draft of the composition in finale already. Today our group performed our composition, it went rather well.

During this video, I practiced the chords in my composition again. This time I thought I played really well and everything was how I wanted it to be. The strumming was precise and smooth. There are also no buzzing sound. I am going to keep on practicing to maintain my playing skill.

During this video i used a new pick. It affects my strumming significantly as now it sounds way better than the previous videos. I strummed a bit too fast and the pattern was not perfect in this video but other than that it went really well. I am going to keep on perfecting my strumming for Friday's session.

During this video i am practicing the chords again only this time i did a different variation. I tried to get the whole six strings to ring whereas last time out i only let four rung. I was trying to make the sound to be fuller in a way. I am going to use some of the techniques here such as the G chord probably because it sounds cleaner but the rest i am pretty much going to keep it the same.

Today we continued working on our composition. Me and partner finished half of the composition today with all the chords, melodies and counter melodies right. We also made the melodies for the second part of our composition which was much more complicated and the first few lines.

In this video I am experimenting on the chords for the last few lines of the song. I used Am, E, F and C with an occasional G or G7 in between in order to emphasize the change. It is most likely that I will use these chords for the song but not necessarily in the order that i played in the video. I will discuss with my group mates tomorrow on how the chords will shape up and finish the melodies and counter melodies.

Today we were divided into our musical groups and composed our first four bars. Mr Herry substituted for Mr John. We wrote our notes on the board to be checked. My group created a four bar with C, F, Dm and G chords. We arranged the melodies according to the chords made.

We did not have any instrument class today because we practiced our composition in the music room. By next session i should be able to do 12 bars already.

Today Mr John was not present during our class so Mr Herry substituted. We learnt about the soprano, alto, tenor and baritone ranges and also the different clefs used like the G clef, Bass clef and the E clef. We learnt how to make the counter melody for the melody and to incorporate chords in the melody. We were divided into groups, I was in one group with Steven and Hashfi and our task is to make a 32 bar composition for two guitars and a violin. Until next session, i'll be trying to experiment on the composition and hopefully come up with something good. By Friday i should be done with at least 4 bars.

During instrument class, we just practiced our guitar skills.

Today we had our singing assessment. We had to sing a western pop song. It was called "price tag" by Jessie J. I thought I did well during the assessment because I am able to reach the notes pretty consistently. After that, we sung "we are the world" by Michael Jackson too. We did not do much today other than the assessment because it took a while to sing the song and to write all the reflection on the booklet.

Today we practiced composing a song and detecting its chord by ourselves. I learnt today that it is easier to make a melody after you have made the chords based on the type of chord progression you chose. After that we practiced singing the pop song again and this time we were even better during the rap.

Today we learnt further about chord progression and how to arrange the different notes to compliment the main melody of the composition. We then practiced singing the "Price Tag" song by Jessie J again and this time we're quite good during the rap part.

Then we went to the instrument class and practiced guitar as usual. I played some classical song and some western songs. I also did a duet with Hashfi again which was great fun.

Today was the first day of term 4. We were explained that we are going to sing a western pop song for one assessment which was great. We practiced singing the song "price tag" by Jessie J in class and did vocal warm ups before. we also learnt chord progression. I felt really good with it and I'm confident i can do well in it. You see, we're supposed to compose a song with the use of chord progression.

During interment class i played a duet with Hashfi. It was really good and i am going to keep on practicing my tempo so that not only will the song come out right but it would also allow me to play in a duet without much trouble.

Today I performed the chamber music orchestra along with my friends after school. there was a fair amount of audience watching and so I was quite nervous. But i just smiled it out and do my job which was to try and play the songs or my part rather, as well as possible. I thought i did well and i am satisfied with my performance although i could be better in playing it more continuously and more fluent.

Today we practiced for the whole session again. Perfecting the Salut D'amour and the Minuet by Boccherini. We are going to perform the songs tomorrow during lunch break. I am going to keep on practicing the pieces at home.

Today we practiced Salut D'Amour and Minuet again. I learnt a lot today, memorizing up to four pages of the piece. I continued practicing them in instrument class. Our assessment is going to be on next monday so i need to practice a lot.

Today we practices the orchestra as usual. The pieces were salut d'amour and minuet. The guitar parts were very complex, its hard to imagine that these are the easier pieces to play. Well we didn't do much today other than practicing the songs. We even practiced it still in instrument class.

Today we again practiced the orchestra. The video of us practicing the song was uploaded to the web by our teacher. So we practiced, salut d'amour again as a group. Today we were also given a new piece to study its called the minuet by Boccherini. It was pretty difficult but not as difficult as reading the note.

During interment class we continued practicing the song.

Today we practice playing salut d'amour as an orchestra or sort of like it. We all played together. I could only play the first page but it is better than nothing. We played pretty well. That was it really. I'll be posting a video on me practicing soon. I am going to keep on practicing the songs for the next session.

Today we handed in our assessment which was in a form of a booklet about the changes from romantic music to the modern 20th century music. Doing it, although tiring was quite fun because you get to explore new music. After that we did a reflection for the presentation we did on monday. The other groups presented their slides today and so it took most of the time. We didn't have instrument class today. We were told to make our blogs again as it is going to be assessed.

Next i am still going to practice the song and I'm and also going to do the blogs.

Today my group present slides to the whole class about classical and romantic music. My group mates are Yohanes Bryan, Verena and Hashfi. We all took turns to speak. We also got audio samples so that the audience can understand the difference of the two eras.

After that in instrument class we practiced the song again. For next session i am going to keep on practicing the song and I'm also going to finish the booklet that is due next session.

Today we did not do much. We got the music sheets that were our assessments last session and we all checked it. I did pretty well and I'm satisfied with it. That took a while and when were done, we were given musical sheets to perform a romantic piece. We are supposed to perform the piece together. i am not good at reading notes but i will try my best.

We also practiced the sheets in instrument class. Next i am going to keep on practicing it and finish the presentation about romantic music on monday.

Today we had our assessment that was about musical notations and theories. We were instructed to make various scales such as harmonic, melodic and natural minor scale. The assessment came quite easy for me because when you are familiar with the intervals, everything becomes so much simpler. For the romanticism terms, i know a bit of italian so it helps for some words if i forgot about them.

I lost my guitar, i placed it in the guitar room and it was gone. But i have other guitars and will keep on practicing it.

Today we focused on learning harmonic and melody scales. When it was my turn to write the scales on board i asked the teacher to give me a hard one because if not i won't get any better. I managed to do the scale well and it was pretty easy. It took sometime for everybody to do a scale and when we are done its time for instrument class. Nothing is different in recent instrument classes, all we do is just practice the songs and our guitar skills. Next, me and my group mates will start on the presentation and to finish it soon.

Today we filled most of the first session discussing about trips. The arts and drama department are planning on going to singapore to watch the play "wicked" and although we are thinking of going somewhere else, it is likely that we would be going there too. We were given vocabulary and introduction sheets about romanticism.

During interment class we just continued practicing our guitars. Next up is to start doing the presentation and getting familiar with the different minor scale.

Today we discussed more theories, the scale and the versions of major chords in minor chords, natural and sharp scales. We also got a sheet about romantic music and a list of words that are frequently used when discussing romantic music. Afterwards we went to instrument class where we practiced. There was not much time so we did not get to practice a lot. Next i will keep on practicing my guitar to play the song, prepare for the presentation more and start reviewing the theories.

Today we discussed about the upcoming assessments which are group presentation, individual booklets and theory exam. We were grouped into groups of fours and threes and out topic is the change about the music from the classical era to the romantic era. We should be done with the presentation in one to two weeks. After the discussion we went to instrument class where i continued practicing the song. Next i am going to prepare the presentation and keep on practicing my guitar skills.

23rd of January was Chinese New Year so there were no classes at that date.

Today we had our singing assessment. We all got up in front of the class and sung the national song. I think i did pretty well although i was not confident. Next time i should be more confident and that will definitely help my singing  to be a lot better. As for instrument class, we didn't have much time but i will continue practicing it.

Today we continued having vocal practice so we would sing the song Indonesia Pusaka well. We were individually checked and got the song to fit our vocal range. We also sang in front of the class in trios. I am going to keep practicing the song that i learnt in instrument class.

Today we were told that we are going to sing Indonesia Pusaka. We had vocal exercises and sung the song. we also sung in trios. we were told that next session would be the day of the assessment. Meanwhile in Instrument class I kept practicing the song. I am also going to keep on memorizing the Indonesia Pusaka song.

Today was the first music class of the semester and we basically talked about our holidays. We reviewed some theories and went to instrument class where I learnt a new song. I forgot the name of the song but i'll keep on practicing it.
