Freestyle #1

In this video I am trying to convey the mood and attitude of the Jazz Age in the 1920s in America.

I am very fond of the charming and seductiveness yet dangerous aspect of the age and I am trying to convey those feeling through my guitar playing. However, we could all agree that I need a lot of improvements. I tried playing chords that are right beside each other in order to create that unsettling mood. I tried to make this sound as Jazz as possible, as thick as possible.

I am going to continue and learn this way of playing the guitar and I want to develop and grow more as a guitarist.

Freestyle #2

In this video I am doing a freestyle on 11th chords. I did not use the bass notes so it sounded more like a major chord.

What I was trying to do in this video is imitating guitar samples in daft punk / breakbot songs, funk music. I am very much interested to learn the skill and technique as it is unique and different from any other guitar techniques. They are complicated and intricate yet are able to give a solid backing to the melody.

I am going to learn how to play funk style guitar.

Violin Solo Section + Outro - Horizon Is Blue

In this video I am practicing my accompaniment for the violin solo and the outro of my composition Horizon is Blue.

I wanted to have a change of tempo like all my other songs and I will be able to do that with the transition to the solo section, then another change of tempo again this time very quiet and intimate sounding. Much like 4 or 5 in the morning after a great night and you just want to go home, sleep in and relax. So that is the idea, with the solo sort of being the climax of the night.

I will keep on practicing this along with my mates so that we could perfect playing this song.

Intro - Horizon Is Blue

In this video I am playing the introduction to my composition Horizon is Blue.

I started out soft as I intend to gather the audience's attention and give it a gradual increase in intensity as well. After the first cycle I will play a more energetic tune to get the mood up a bit, then the next cycle, the violin goes in and plays the harmonious full notes to accompany my guitar. After that and only then will the flute go in, completing the gradual process from nothing to something.

As per usual, I will keep on practicing the song, myself and with my mates so that we would be able to play this song perfectly on performance day.

The Smiths - This Charming Man

In this video I am playing 'this charming man,' a song by a British band called the Smiths. Again, it is by no means a good cover but I just thought of uploading it for variety's sake. So here it is. I enjoyed the jingle sound of it all and the fact that throughout the sing these melodies are the ones being played instead of the usual strumming, which I find really fascinating and brilliant.

Just like what I said in the previous upload, I am going to keep working on my composition by practicing it not only by myself but also with friends since the composition is meant to be played by three people.

The Smiths - Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others

In this video I am covering bits of The Smith's song, 'some girls are bigger then others.' It is by no means a good cover, so do not go all berserk on me just yet. I just thought that instead of posting another video of myself practicing my composition like what I have been doing for the past two weeks or so, I'd upload something different.

So here is my half-cover of the song. It is not any good but the tunes are pretty nice. I think I mentioned about Johnny Marr in previous videos (?) well he made composed the song and the other song that I am about to upload, 'this charming man'

All the while I will keep on practicing my composition no doubt, and I will also rehearse it with my friends because the composition is meant to be played by three instruments.

Horizon Is Blue Rehearsal

In this video I am playing the melody with the new chord accompaniment that is strummed. I am playing the melodies much clearer and in tempo this time, much better compared to last time. However, there are still lots of room for improvement like in the last part of the song where I made a mistake and tried to cover it up a bit with improvisation.

I still need to practice my melody more and make it second nature. So until next time, I will continue practicing my song.
